Let the Director’s revisions begin!

September 26th, 2005

Two weeks ago we welcomed Jason Centrone to our Creative Direction Team. The Team had its first meeting two weeks ago, in which we tentatively planned our process for critical analysis of the script. The Creative Direction Team has determined the main thematic questions in our story. We are now meeting weekly to analyze every scene in terms of themes and character development. We will then revisit all of the dialog for believability and efficiency. Some of our Members will be rewriting scenes to present alternatives to the current script. As we get closer to our Story board process in mid October, our Art Team is revisiting concepts to ensure we have enough collective visual understanding of locations and characters to be effective at drawing story boards.

Script chopping and slicing continues

This week we welcomed Paul Waterman to both our Artistic Design Team and Production Management team. We are in the process of changing our webserver and Paul will be taking over as the webmaster. The site might be temporarily down during the transition.  We get a lot of response from potential Cinematography Team members but have decided that this team will not kick until later.  We hope to have the first Creative Direction Team meeting this coming week and be able to announce several new Members for that team next week. We have been contacted by sound techs and music composers which is exciting. The Script, has been revised and is now down to 130 pages. The main revision was to cut back story elements no longer considered necessary.

We have decided that we will have a collaborative story boarding process where all Artistic Design and Creative Direction Team members brainstorm on the look of each shot together with a volunteer drawing “Pictionary” style. Our current schedule has us engaging this process in October.

We have been debating our plan to use Blender 3D as our CGI platform. Although it appears to have the necessary functionality our Artistic Design Team is concerned that the learning curve for the software is too steep and we would rather our time be spent learning software more commonly used in the industry like Maya. We are actively seeking Blender 3D gurus hoping we can overcome the Blender learning curve. Our Artistic Design Team has put forth a wealth of set designs which we are currently not sharing with the public. On one hand, it would be great to share the unique ideas and concepts coming out of our team. However we are concerned that some ideas could be ripped off and used by other projects with shorter time lines.
