Rally the troops

January 29th, 2007

Would you think that making a low budget film had anything in common with preparing for a campaign?

The month of January was spent meeting with each member about the 2007 Story Reel Development Pipeline and getting an understanding of everyone’s role within the plan.

As can be expected a couple of members expressed interest in staying involved but were unable to meet and articulate how they would participate in the 2007 pipeline.  It reminds me of the first thing I was told by a young independent movie director who met me to discuss making movies back in 2005.  “Everyone wants to make a movie,” she said simply.

The trick is getting people who actually have the faculties to do more than just want to make a movie.  We have been very fortunate to develop a core group that have proven to be able to more than just talk about movie making.

Now we are stepping out into a new frontier inviting actors and actresses into our ranks.  We’ve starting recruiting for voice-over recording on the preproduction reel and are overwhelmed and surprised by the number for people interested in the project.  We anticipate casting in couple of weeks.

New year, new goals, new processes, new commitments

January 7th, 2007
Storyboard sketches for every scene were finished as of January 2, 2007 !
Special thanks to our members Tyler and Tony for assisting in the final push toward the end of the November and to all our members who although may not have been directly involved in the sketches provided inspirational concept designs, music and moral support!

I personally spent over 50 hours in revising and sketching scenes.  The quality may not be visually compelling yet, but the sketches communicate the story.  With the sketches complete we will have the first version of our Story Reel in a few weeks.  It will be a rough cut “slide show,” style of the panels for each scene.  Our creative pipeline for 2007 will center around the continual development of this Story Reel through the inclusion of music, dialog, Sound FX, and improved visualizaitons from computer generated graphics to physical minatures.
I have immense faith in my co-collaborators and believe that credit on this project will be very valuable to anyone’s artistic future.  That is my faith, not a promise or a contract, but I hope that my own efforts continue to instill such faith for our members as well.

We are hitting the ground running to meet the goals of our 2007 Creative Pipeline!
