Our normal strategy for production design has been to assign projects to artists who design independently and then communicate directly with me about changes to make. We did it in a similar way last year except we also had group collaborative meetings where we discussed both production design as well as Storyboard pitches.
Last Saturday, April 21, 2007 we tried something different. We did a 4-5hr production design collaborative session where we worked through several sets and the related set dressing. It was fun and we completed a couple of sets that way.
We finished the recording we had scheduled on Sunday, April 22. We will be reviewing the recordings to ensure we got all the lines and may have some re-recordings to do, but I’m not aware of any particular need for that at this time.
I want so say thanks for making this a rewarding experience to the following:
- Wally for letting us turn his condo into our temporary recording studio and taking on the role of Cheif Editor and Engineer.
- Jason for supervising the sound and demanding my patience and focus on getting the best possible performance.
- Tony for knowing the story enough to motivate our actors in rehearsal.
- Jill for sharing her every present wisdom in warm up activities that inspired and brought out great performances from our actors.
- And of course… our great cast for sharing their talent and energy to create characters that add the kind of depth to the Story Reel that doesn’t come from a simple script reading.
The next focus for our team is editing the hundreds of tracks and choosing from multiple takes for each line. We are planning on holding collaborative editing sessions.
We will be developing a full soundtrack for the Preproduction Story Reel. This soundtrack will serve as a temp track for the final live action movie, which will allow us to be more liberal and open to a variety of options and artists.
