Last quarter lags

October 23rd, 2007

We are well into the last three months of 2007 and it would be all too easy to slow down, rest on what we have accomplished so far in 2007 and not do much until the beginning of 2008.

Angels.mp3 Temp Music Track by Daniel Taylor

cliffside.mp3 Temp Music Track by David Binnig

The latest Story Reel Development includes temp music tracks selected to enter the development pipeline based on how they relate to our diagetic and score breakdowns.  Some of the tracks are old clips done by long-term members like Jason and John Centrone and others are newer clips from Daniel Taylor and David Binnig.

We have continued our weekly editing session hosted by Wally.  I would estimate that we will have the dialog in with the Story Reel for a first cut in a couple of weeks.  Then the technical work of cleaning up the dialog sound wise and adjusting levels for consistency will begin.  We will also start dropping in temp music tracks and Tony will have a first draft Sound Fx breakdown so we can acquire or create sounds to insert into the Story Reel as a seperate track.

Forward with 3D Animatics

We finished the first 3D animatic version of a whole scene for the film.  We used a scene that was spaceships but there were a few shots with characters.  The spaceship models were low polygon designs by Rob Brown.  We created characters with rough resemblences of the wardrobe design done so far. The plan is to do the entire movie with 3D animatics as a previs process. The animation isn’t complex and the models are simple to keep rendering times as fast as possible during this phase of the project.  There were 25 different shots animated and rendered seperately and then combined into one video.

We threw some of the voice over dialog that went with the scene and some possible music on the animatic just for fun.  We will also add sound Fx as we progress.  The animatic was rendered small resolution to keep the file size down for Internet viewing by the team.  A larger, higher quality render will be integrated into the official Story Reel we are currently editing together with the voice over dialog.
